Riesling was always part of Beethoven’s life. His grandfather was a wine merchant and his Mothers family continues to make wine near Bonn where Beethoven was born. In Vienna, while writing his monumental Ninth Symphony, Beethoven lived in a house attached to a winery owned by the Mayer family, who had been making Riesling since the middle ages. So when Ludwig Von said “Music is the wine which inspires one to new generative processes, and I am Bacchus who presses out this glorious wine for mankind and makes them spiritually drunken.” We think he knew what he was talking about.
