Winemaker’s Tasting Notes:
This vintage of Chumeia Vineyard’s flagship wine is exhibiting characteristics of strawberry, brambleberry, cedar, vanilla, a touch of chocolate, with firm tannins. “Arguably one of the best Zins I’ve ever done, this vintage is similar to the 2001 and 2002”. The 2007 hits hard on the mid palate and then finishes with a smooth landing on the finish, yum yum! This wine marries equally well with summer barbeque fare or a hearty stew on a frosty night. Try Chumeia’s 2007 Zinfandel with Slow Cooker Braised Ribs.
Vintage Notes:
All in all not a bad growing season. A touch more rain would have been good for this dry land farmed vineyard but in farming you get what you get. The heat for the vintage was a little warmer than past vintages that made the ‘raisin’ factor a bit more abundant but Zins are known for that. On a scale of 1-10, I give the overall growing season an 8+. With that in mind, I give full kudos to the Dusi family with supplying stellar fruit quality and allowing me to produce some of the finest Zins in Paso Robles.
