This is our homage to the traditional cepage of Cheval blanc. This Meritage blend is produced from 66% Cabernet Franc, 33% Merlot and 1% Malbec. An unusual blend for California, but not so unusual for its namesake. The grapes were all grown in the famed Rancho Salina vineyard located at an elevation of 985 feet on the west face of the Mayacamas Mountain range over looking Sonoma Valley. The vineyard, which lies directly next to the Monte Rosso vineyard, delivers traditional, firm mountain fruit. We blended together the three varietals to produce a wine with a firm, elegant structure that showcases big tannins, notes of cassis, violets, penscil lead and sweet charred oak notes. We think this wine can be cellared where it will improve for up to ten years or more. A most unique bottling blend for California.
