2006 Estate reserve Grenache (pronounced gren-ash) is one of the most widely planted varietals of red wine grapes in the world. It ripens late so it needs hot, dry conditions such as those found in the southern Rhone region as well as Orchid Hill Westside Estates. The zesty ripe 2006 Orchid Hill Estate Grenache was aged 18 months in French oak with production limited to 128 cases. This fine wine exhibits cranberry and wild blueberry flavors with delicate but substantial tannins and smoky hints of oak. It pairs well with calamari in tomato sauce, grilled halibut, barbequed chicken wings, pork roast in mushroom sauce, or a cold spicy gazpacho.
