The 2007 Peconic Bay Merlot is soft, inky and intense with long flavors of black fruits, plum skin, cedar and forest floor. Stylistically, it is very similar in weight and texture to Pomerol wines of good pedigree. It will improve in the bottle for many years and last as long as 18-20 gracefully.
Vintage Notes
This vintage was unlike any we had previously encountered. The summer saw drought conditions that stressed the vines and have been known to produce stellar red wines.
Fermentation Notes
This wine is an example of wine making techniques to achieve a synergy that enhances the entire lot. The grapes from three different blocks of Merlot were segregated in the winery and fermented using different extractive methods. The were then carefully blended after aging 18 months in French Oak barrels. The result is a wine that possesses both ripe, firm tannins and bright fruit character.
