Vintage Notes

The 2008 vintage was one of the more dramatic growing seasons we have had in years. Spring frost, the second drought year in a row, issues with shatter, heat in August, rain in September, major freezes in October, and fires as well created an interesting vintage. Less fruit, but what we had was pretty good quality showing some unique characteristics.

Fermentation Notes

This wine was crafted by bleeding off about 10-15% of the crushed grape juice from all of our red grape varieties (Saignée method). We then allow 4-6 hours of skin contact and 48 hours of cold soaking. The juice is then inoculated with a yeast culture and left to ferment for about 14-21 days.
After fermentation, we rack it off its gross lees and let it age for 3 months in neutral French oak barrels. From the barrels we cold stabilize the wines at 34° for about two weeks. The wine is then lightly filtered and bottled. This method produces a light & vibrant fruit forward wine.
