The longer we make wine, the more we become interested in the merits of bottling single-vineyard wines. Luckily for us, Walla Walla is dotted with small, family-run vineyards like Rizzuti’s block out on Langdon Road. This is a pretty spot with a view of the Blues (proven to have a positive effect on wine grapes!) and it was planted by Leo Rizzuti about eight years ago when “wine fever” really started to grip the valley. A lot of those backyard vineyards are gone now, neglected or torn up, but the Rizzuti vineyard remains and thrives.
The Syrah that comes off this block is deep and rich, complex beyond its’ years. It is classic Walla Walla Syrah and easily takes its’ place with the other great Syrah vineyards in the Valley. The wine is the real deal, filled to the cork with brambly, dark fruit – no cloying or syrupy tastes here! Enjoy!
